Newt's Cape's overviews (for caches and bookmarks) shrink automatically for NOS 2.1 systems when NIE is connected; you should use i:General:Page Size: full-NIE to shrink the book size for online browsing.

2.x: Schedule:Autolink is now a picker with choices: None, 1 level, 2, 3; None and 1 should work exactly like the earlier off/on checkbox; if 2 levels is selected, it should autoload links for all pages that were autoloaded from the original set, excluding as usual those URL fragments in Autolink exceptions; 3 levels even more. WARNING: since the number of pages returned can expand quickly, be sure to increase your cache size, pre-inspect pages for links to add to exceptions list, increment the level slowly, and be sure to monitor progress the first few times to avoid surprises. Because Newt's Cape is not checking its "global pending request queue" (a messy fix to add), some pages may be fetched more than once.
changed parser to not totally ignore "empty name tag", e.g., <A NAME="foo"></A> by inserting an extra space (i.e.,  ); however, this is still not ideal since this space may appear at beginning of a paragraph, or create an invisible paragraph just before a heading (at end of previous page if Above='top). If you're creating your own HTML, it's still much better to use a non-empty range, within context of a block (e.g., paragraph or heading) tag.

2.x. added i:General:Other Option: Accept-Language and Accept for customizing HTTP header. For Accept-Language if you specified fr; q=1.0, en; q=0.5, for example, and if server recognized this, server would return a French version of a page; otherwise, English. For Accept, Newt's Cape normally sends */*; if you specified text/html-newton; q=1.0, text/html; q=0.9, */*, and if server recognized this, it would return a Newton version of a HTML page; otherwise, regular HTML or other MIME type. HotMail should work now -- as well as, hopefully, any site that does a redirect after a POST form; there is a problem downloading JPEGs from HotMail: the current JPEG plugin checks that the URL ends with .jpg or .jpeg -- I may remove this restriction in a future version and rely just on the MIME type.
2.x: streamlines the viewing of many new cache items. Go:Set HTML[Image] Cache Item sets starting item to current URL, if any; otherwise, oldest item in cache; it then does "Newer Item". Go:Newer HTML[Image] Cache Item processes "next" newer item (item above in overview); if you sometimes get a -48406 error, just do File:Open Location (I'll reproduce/track this down later).
2.x: initial support for autoloading links for scheduled pages. AutoLink? checkbox (upper right) in Schedule dialog. Newt's Cape scans only the scheduled docs for links to load; it skips links of pages already cached; it shouldn't scan for links in other (new) pages. To cut down on some of the "extraneous links", you can include a list of host names in Other Options:Autolink Exceptions, e.g. www.foo.com; ad.doubleclick.com; www.webring.org; it will also exclude links that end in .pkg, .sit.hqx, .sit, .zip (as long as Autolink Exceptions is non-empty) This is global for all scheduled sets, and is found in current PrefSet. If this basic autoloading functionality is useful, it might be improved by including a Autolink Only and Autolink Exception Extensions preference, and perhaps making these settable for each Schedule set? Other simple suggestions?

you can save a set of preferences ("Pref Set") and switch between Pref Sets; this is somewhat like the Mac Extension Manager; it could be useful when using different fonts for a particular language Encoding, or switching to "dumber"/more forgiving settings for problem web sites (e.g., Ignore Tables, don't Include Frames, etc.); all preference-related info, including cookies and authentication, is stored with current Pref Set. Pref Sets appear under "i" menu, with only "Main Pref Set" initially. When you select a different Pref Set, Newt's Cape closes and reopens (currently this level of reinitialization is necessary to ensure proper (esp. cache) cleanup/initialization; selecting same set opens General. I may be able to avoid this sometimes in a future version). To create, rename, delete or reset a Pref Set, i:General has an action button:

2.x: HTML:Fix ISO Chars? provides an interim fix for users who are outside US or read pages with embedded accented characters (e.g., German, French). Generally, the page author should have used "character entities" such as Ü for Ü rather than embedding the character code, even though technically, these extended 8-bit characters are part of the ISO-8859-1 standard. The problem is that the Newton low-level communication code applies a default encoding table ("MacRoman") which maps these to other characters; the Newton documentation does not describe how to turn off this mapping (the other built-in mappings appear no better). For now, if the Fix ISO Chars? option is on (and you do not have the Encoding plugin installed), Newt's Cape re-substitutes ~60 characters -- this will slow down transfer somewhat. If some characters still don't translate, send me a specific URL (and also how the character should appear in browser),and I'll see if I can fix this (or following table), assuming the Newton has the character in its font. Eventually, I may provide an encoding module (like for Japanese, Chinese), but this may be overkill and does not appear trivial to do.
