CrozzWord: introduction

Starting CrozzWord

Normally, CrozzWord automatically displays an open dialog when it starts (Prefs: Startup); or you can later select File: Open to set a new category, host, site or file location.

Register and Prefs buttons appear at bottom for convenience.

Puzzle Formats

CrozzWord can read local files in Across Lite (.puz) format, or remote files in Across Lite, Crossword Compiler/Creator/Express/Wizard, Universal and other puzzle formats.

Special Keys

You can use ctrl- shortcuts for several menu commands; on the Zaurus hardware keyboard, you can access shortcuts using Fn, e.g., Fn+O for Open (if Fn+Shift does not work as Ctrl-).

note: Enter key can be used in most dialogs to select the default action:

note: on the Zaurus, although the Cancel button (Esc) can be used with popup windows, it should not be used (or used cautiously) with the main application, since CrozzWord may not always, reliably receive this event; also, if CrozzWord is not installed in Internal memory, holding the Cancel button to turn off (suspend) will lose the current puzzle when Zaurus resumes.

Quitting CrozzWord

Tap X to exit CrozzWord. The Esc key closes the current window; if none are open, CrozzWord exits. On Mac, cmd-W closes a window, cmd-Q exits (Apple menu: Quit). On Windows, Alt-F4 closes a window or exits.

If a puzzle has not been saved after guesses or a download, you will be asked about saving the current puzzle before quitting. CrozzWord removes any temporary About or .zip files it created. It also removes any files no longer in the recent list.
