CrozzWord: Changes 1.4 (and earlier)
Note: "[Reg]" refers to features available after entering a registration code
1.4 (14-Nov-2003)
- (changes since 1.3k)
- Windows: fixes for JVM 1.4+ (clue menus, kbd menu)
- Save Recent list saved immediately
- (summary of changes since 1.3)
- accesses puzzles in additional formats:
Eclipse, CrossDown, Crossword Construction Kit, plus some site-specific formats
- cross-platform improvements for Zaurus (newer ROMs), Windows, PocketPC, Symbian, Macintosh Classic & OS X
(platforms & requirements):
more font and square sizes; guess alignment; layout; help/browser selection&launch;
handling of shortcuts, Enter and Tab; keyboard menu (PocketPC, Symbian)
- Local Directory: built-in access to main "Documents" folder and
to CrozzWord's settings folder (and immediate subfolders; [Reg] and .zip files)
- Prefs properties file moved for better file management
- Prefs: Startup; Accounts; (update) Sites; (guess) Align; Skip: Letter, Word, Scroll
- File: Recent, Save Recent
1.3k (20-Sep-2003)
- many small fixes for other Personal Java devices, e.g., Sony Ericsson P800 smart phone (w/ Symbian Epoc OS)
- if Browser and/or Help preference set to "crozzword", info appears as plain text (like View: Clues window);
Docs menu item becomes a submenu (TOC); useful for platforms without browsers,
or for browsers that are slow or cannot be opened with an initial URL or local file
- Edit: Prefs: Kbd Menu (default: true for PPC and Symbian);
2-line keyboard menu appears: for PPC, in window overlaying title; otherwise at top of puzzle;
grid; highlights current key (before it's released) in light gray
- 3 new built-in Sample (phone theme) puzzles included
- View: Clues includes current guess length and letters (useful for really long words)
- progress box: Cancel changed to Stop
- Edit: Clear: now clears previous status (in addition to letters)
- accesses older Guardian puzzles
- Eclipse format puzzles now recognized (implemented earlier but accidentally omitted)
- displays correct clues for Crossword Creator (.xp) format (broken in recent versions)
- improved puzzle display refresh/update
- OS X: File Open window redisplays to re-enable Hosts menu
- limits evaluation period based on first-use rather than release date: CrozzWord checks each time it starts, and
displays Registration window if within several days of 10-day expiration.
If already expired and registration key is not valid, CrozzWord exits. Status appears in Help:About.
New versions of CrozzWord "reset" the eval period.
If device has no "user.name" (e.g., PPC, Symbian), email address can be entered
- a separate J2ME version will be available for devices (like cell phones) that support MIDP Profile but not Personal Java/Profile
1.3j (11-Jul-2003)
- Prefs: re-arranged. Pencil next to pencil color.
example square and text moved to Square row (with size and background color).
- [Reg] Prefs: Startup (new) controls what CrozzWord does upon startup --
assuming CrozzWord is before "register by" date, and not launched/opened with an initial puzzle (on some platforms):
- none
- no puzzle or dialog automatically opened
- Open (default)
- File: Open dialog
- Recent
- File: Recent, i.e., opens last puzzle saved via File: Save Recent
- Favorite
- displays a category, host or site (set via Favorites: Startup)
- File: Recent -- displays menu of last 8 puzzles (saved with Save Recent), most recent at top
- File: Save Recent -- saves current puzzle (without prompting) in crozzword/recent/;
note: it replaces any older version (or puzzle from another site) with same filename;
puzzles no longer in menu are removed during quit;
eventually, there might be an preference to specify the size limit
- File: Save As -- still allows you to name/organize more puzzles;
if you save a new puzzle directly to crozzword/recent/, this is the same as File: Save Recent
- note: ctrl-S and "Save" in quit dialog now use Save Recent
- [Reg] Favorites: Startup -- saves current category, host or site (and changes Startup pref to Favorite);
e.g., Favorites:*daily; Major Sites; Local Directory:My Documents:nyt; Newspapers/Magazines:Houston Chronicle:*15 days;
Local Directory:crozzword
- Skip: Letter, Word, Scroll saved as preferences
- updated help files
1.3i (2-Jun-2003)
- Prefs now stored inside crozzword folder in "home" directory (to reduce clutter);
Zaurus version uses Settings/ under root/home or zaurus/home
(rather than etc/ under QtPalmtop) due to changed permissions in newer ROMs (e.g., 3.10);
crozzword.properties and user favorites are automatically moved to new location
(any user Zaurus files under crozzword/ need to be moved manually)
- Edit now contains Skip submenu with 3 toggle items:
- Letter (default: off)
- (new in 1.3i)
- after a letter is typed, skip to next blank letter in current word;
if Check: Input is also on, skip to next blank or incorrect letter
- Word (default: off)
- (formerly Enter: Skip)
- after Enter or Tab is typed, skip to blank letter in next word;
if Check: Input is also on, skip to blank or incorrect letter in next word
- Scroll (default: on)
- (formerly AutoScroll)
- automatically scroll if necessary so that current letter is visible (after guess, cursor keys or Enter)
1.3h (8-Apr-2003)
- Prefs: changed "NYT User" label to user Accounts menu containing NYT;
if you have a subscription for another crossword site (requiring cookies or secure login),
let me know if you would be interested in future CrozzWord support for it
- Prefs: added menu (after Sites label, before shorter user site URL) for CrozzWord category updates
(e.g., site lists for Authors, Newspapers, etc.) -- in case of temporary or permanent outages/slowdowns:
- Update1 (default)
- comcast.net
- Update2 (mirror)
- newted.com
- Update3 (backup)
- kagi.com
- redirects to my current main web site (i.e., Update1), but slower than using it directly --
useful mostly as a backup in case I change sites (until I upgraded CrozzWord)
- Prefs view should display better (left justified items, less clipping)
- internal cleanup: smoother/faster network connection/cancel;
eliminated some unused code; tested "xlet" delivery model
1.3g (19-Mar-2003)
- PocketPC: centers keys in "keyboard" (title bar)
- small speedup when updating categories
- Mac OS X: although it seems that CrozzWord cannot be launched with an initial puzzle (via double-click or Open with),
it is possible to start CrozzWord, and subsequently
select a puzzle on desktop and use Open With, Other, Show All Applications, CrozzWord
1.3f (10-Mar-2003)
- cancelling Save during Quit now cancels quit
- more of puzzle title should be visible (removed "CrozzWord:" prefix)
- PocketPC: overlays "keyboard menu" on top of title bar to make more room in crossword area;
title appears initially (and can be redisplayed later via CrozzWord icon)
- shortened help files
(eliminated "Application Documents..." menu except on 1st Zaurus page, and associated dummy files)
- Enter in Reg:Set now works
1.3e (4-Mar-2003)
- Local Directory: Other, Samples, followed by several key user/system folder "hosts" added when CrozzWord starts;
when selected, any .zip files or immediate sub-folders are displayed as "sites" for .puz files:
- Zaurus (for Internal, CF, SD)
- .../Documents/application/zip/
- .../Documents/application/ -- e.g., octet-stream, x-across (or your own folders)
- Windows
- \My Documents\
- Mac
- /Documents/
- all
- "CrozzWord"
- located in the "crozzword" settings folder, typically in a system/user preferences folder.
any files/folders added here should be preserved by uninstallers; note: tmp folder is cleared out when CrozzWord quits
- Tab key: in puzzle area (non-Zaurus), same as Enter, i.e., select next word;
in other windows, tab still sequences through controls
- Enter key: in popup windows, perform default action:
Open button in Open dialog, Set in Prefs & Reg, first active button in confirmation.
[minor bug for Reg:Set will be fixed]
- "close" window key: ctrl-W (Mac); Alt-F4 (Win); Esc (all platforms); note: on Zaurus, Esc now closes dialogs;
however, Esc still not detected for main window -- quits abruptly)
- Macintosh: separate About, Quit, Prefs(OS X) commands on system menus now active; ctrl-Q checks for unsaved puzzle;
for Mac OS 9, drag&drop local .puz onto CrozzWord icon works;
for OS X, starting with puzzle from desktop not working (perhaps I after I upgrade to OS X and can experiment...)
- Windows: Browser,Help default to url -- which uses system browser preference (via rundll32 url.dll,FileProtocolHandler)
and is usually faster than invoking program; note: it's possible to revert to default by erasing Browser,Help value
- other: Browser,Help if entering a program path does not work,
contact me regarding other os/command line requirements/patterns
- About: includes System(OS) and Java version info under Application
- PocketPC layout: Prefs now standard, less space between menus; keyboard menu less crowded (split into 2 rows)
-- with space("-") and Enter (paragraph symbol) at end of consecutive rows
- Edit: AutoScroll (default: on) -- new option added to control previous automatic behavior;
after input, puzzle scrolls to make rest of/next word visible; if off, scroll manually
- updated help files
- improves file descriptions (in file list and About) and file name default (for saving)
- ignores/removes sites with unknown puzzle formats -- for future upward compatibility
(so, site files shared by several versions could include new sites without generating "unknown format" errors for older versions)
- accesses puzzles in additional formats: Eclipse, CrossDown, Crossword Construction Kit,
plus some site-specific formats (~40,000+ total puzzles accessible online)
- remote site descriptions more compact and current, easier to maintain (fewer manual updates required)
1.3d (2-Jan-2003)
- Zaurus, Windows, Macintosh versions (later: PocketPC)
- Prefs: Guess alignment: Left(default), Center, Right -- located in Pencil row (PPC: Reveal row)
1.3c (28-Dec-2002)
- [Reg] +Sites local/remote file (if any) opened at startup (rather than after selecting Favorites)
- most changes involve compatibility/features for more platforms, i.e., Windows,
Macintosh Classic(8.1-9.2), Mac OS X
- Prefs: Browser, Help buttons can be used to select browser/help applications;
defaults:
- Zaurus: opera & helpbrowser
- PocketPC: IELaunch (uses DLL)
- Macintosh Classic: openURL (uses Internet Config browser setting)
- Macintosh OS X: open (uses Internet browser setting)
- Windows: C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\IEXPLORE.EXE (change for different browser or install path)
- Prefs: increased font and square sizes
- start CrozzWord with an initial local .puz file:
- Macintosh Classic: drag&drop any .puz onto CrozzWord icon, or doubleclick a .puz saved by CrozzWord
- Windows: initially: right click, Open With, Choose Program, Other, Program Files\CrozzWord\CrozzWord.exe;
later: right click, Open With, "Launch Anywhere GUI"
(or just doubleclick if you set "Always use this program to open these files")
- other systems: no success
- Windows, Macintosh: all windows resizable
- PocketPC: adds input menu of characters (A-Z, space, Enter) between Down clue menu and puzzle
(since Jeode does not recognize Transcriber characters; and popup keyboard obscures puzzle)
- known problems:
- Macintosh: cmd-N inserts initial "N" when sequencing thru .zip files; Across/Down menus, scrollbars ignore direction color;
Help/Register not disabled after registering; Apple/application menu: About, Preferences (OS X) ignored;
Quit exits application without checking/saving current puzzle
- Mac OS X: newly filled menus in Open dialog sometimes do not display -- workaround: close/reopen window
- PocketPC: Prefs layout combines Pencil and Square rows; Open/Save limited to My Documents folders
1.3a (29-Oct)
- View: Clues -- splitting of very long clues (without spaces) fixed
- About: Application | Puzzle | Archive links (at top of page) now work; URL site now a link;
current About info should now appear (via redirect if necessary; some browsers required manual refresh)
- additional cross-platform fixes/cleanup; in particular, CrozzWord runs on iPaq PocketPC (with Jeode)
1.3 (15-Oct)
- (summary since 1.2)
- includes two built-in sample puzzles
- accesses puzzles in several formats (only Across Lite in earlier versions):
Crossword Compiler, Crossword Creator, CrossWord Express, Crossword Wizard, Universal
- [Reg] more sites available with links to over 30,000 online puzzles (compared to 30-Jun: ~9,000)
- since there are many more sites,
the Open hierarchy now has four levels (instead of three):
- category
- host (or subcategory)
- site
- file or date
- cross-references between categories, e.g., Frank Longo (under Authors) links
to LitSoft (under Major Sites); Favorites category contains
shortcuts to regularly updated sites (daily, weekly, monthly)
- [Reg] user-added Favorites
- adds/fixes menu command keyboard shortcuts
- [Reg] batch site Save to directory or .zip archive
- released: 15-Oct-2002
- reg-date: 15-Dec-2002
1.2iR (unreleased)
- added support for News:Guardian (+2200 puzzles)
- fixes for some earlier "invalid" Crossword Express format puzzles
- displays User Name in Register view
- for unregistered users, Open dialog selects Samples initially
- improves cross-platform compatibility: Browser and Help(browser) preferences;
when screen size is slightly shorter (e.g., PocketPC), some Prefs rows combined (e.g., Pencil & Square)
1.2hR (2-Oct)
- more formats, puzzles
- in addition to Across Lite, CrozzWord recognizes formats:
Crossword Compiler, Crossword Creator, CrossWord Express, Crossword Wizard, Universal
- this results in many more sites: total accessible online puzzles = ~28,700! (compared to 30-Jun: ~9,000);
saves other formats locally as .puz; some puzzle information (i.e., title, author, copyright and comment)
may not be accessible from the puzzle file (though it may be visible in original enclosing HTML page);
CrozzWord ignores other (mostly undocumented) features, e.g., built-in font, color, label, picture info;
the update list omits some types of puzzles ("barred" puzzles where adajacent words are contiguous,
or single clues with compound numbers which apply to multiple entries)
- new category hierarchy
- since there are many more sites,
the Open hierarchy has been extended with a new 'site' level, to keep menus shorter/more navigable:
- category. the built-in category list includes the following top-level categories:
Local Directory, Favorites, Authors, Major Sites, and Newspapers/Magazines;
plus many Theme- sites: Theme-Arts, Theme-Business,
Theme-Languages, Theme-Living, Theme-Misc, Theme-Place,
Theme-Religion, Theme-Science(Life,Physical,Social; each is described below, along
with an approximate puzzle count (=).
[Reg] When you select an empty category, e.g., Theme-Language, or almost-empty (not-yet-updated) category,
e.g., initial Authors, CrozzWord updates just that category -- resulting
in a faster update, and avoiding memory clutter with descriptions and URLs
for unused categories. So, there is no overhead to include other categories that you don't select.
The separate "Update Categories" (all) button has been removed.
- host, e.g., Litsoft or subtheme, e.g., Arts: Music
- site. e.g., Frank Longo's Parlor under Litsoft
- puzzles (file or date)
- Local Directory
- each memory source (Internal, CF, SD/MMC) has two Document subdirectory sites: default
(octet-stream) and x-crossword; is anyone using x-crossword (if not, I'll remove);
is anyone using x-across (if not, I won't add); removed the MIME
type preference. You can still add your own directories via +Sites preference;
currently, adding directories via Add Favorites not supported; if you
use different local directories or lots of .zip files, let me know so I
can increase 'local' support (most of my effort has gone toward
improving organization of remote sites for online use)
- Favorites
- aka links, cross-references, shortcuts, bookmarks
- Many hosts could fit in more than one
category -- it's often difficult to decide the "most natural" fit in a pure hierarchy.
However, cross-references can provide more flexibility.
For example, the new Favorites category contains *daily, *weekly and *monthly subcategories,
with links to sites in Newspapers/Magazines and Major Sites; by convention, * prefix on host (or site)
indicates that it is updated on a regular basis.
There are also a few built-in links within other categories, e.g., Authors: Longo,Frank~
links to Major Sites: Litsoft: Frank Longo's Parlor; by convention, a cross-reference link has a ~ suffix.
You can add your own using Favorites:Add Host command;
Reset All to remove all user-added entries.
- [Reg] When you open the Favorites category the first
time, CrozzWord reads 3 files:
- a remote Favorites file (more daily, monthly, weekly references) --
maintained by CrozzWord author
- your saved Favorites (if any)
- your +Sites file (if any) -- though of course it can add to/create any other categories
- Authors [=3111]
- same as before, plus included former large separate categories: Terry Cleveland, Jack
- site level allows many sites for same author
- Major Sites [=5175]
- formerly "major" hosts from Other Sites, plus Litsoft, PuzzleBuffs, Thinks
- more puzzles and/or sites; no particular theme, or sites represent different themes for a host
- Newspapers/Magazines [=8933]
- formerly Daily/Weekly, plus NYTimes and non-updated publications and archives from Other Sites
- links to regularly updated sites appear in Favorites under *daily, *weekly or *monthly
- NYT $ubscription puzzles [=2500]
- Theme-Arts [=478]
- formerly Media/Arts. Art, Film/TV, Literature, Media, Music, Theater
- Theme-Business [=274]
- new. Management, Finance, Taxes, Industry, Law
- Theme-Languages [=6692]
- new. hosts for Afrikaans, Danish, Dutch, ESL (English as a Second Language), Finnish, French, German,
Indonesian, Irish, Italian, Latin, Maltese, Norwegian, Portuguese, Spanish, Swedish, Turkish
- Theme-Living [=1229]
- formerly Education/Science & Sport/Recreation. Adult, Ethnic, Games/Hobbies, Kids, Organizations, Pets, Sports, Vehicles
- Theme-Misc [=641]
- formerly some Other Sites, plus Castle Networking, older/smaller sites; mixed or no specific theme
- Theme-Place [=459]
- formerly Regional. Geography, Travel, Regional
- Theme-Religion [=595]
- sites related to religion, spirituality, Bible
- Theme-Science,Life [=528]
- formerly part of Education/Science. Animals, Biology, Environment, Medicine, Plants, Sleep
- Theme-Science,Physical [=154]
- ditto. Astronomy, Chemistry, Physics, Technology/Computers
- Theme-Science,Social [=506]
- ditto. History, Education (mixed/misc. sites), Political Science, Psychology
- cross-platform fixes:
it should be more possible for CrozzWord to run on other Personal Java-based systems, e.g., iPaq.
- menu shortcuts:
since "ctrl-" is not recognized by
Jeode on Zaurus when using Fn-Shift on slideout keyboard, CrozzWord adds shortcuts for just Fn-O, Fn-N, Fn-S, Fn-;, Fn-F
- misc. cleanup:
eliminated some special code to handle Naples News --
this now represented as a host with series of different sites to handle month gaps and
differences in directory and file name spelling/case
1.2gR (28-Jul)
- includes two sample puzzles -- Local Directory: Samples (or Other Sites: Misc.)
so that a new user w/o network card could access a few puzzles until a later sync
- View:Clues wraps text to avoid horiz scrolling
- popup windows recognize Cancel button to close, don't allow resize
- Save As now supports directory creation from directory prefix on filename;
to save to CF card with no existing puzzles, navigate to /mnt/cf/Documents/application,
then specify octet-stream/mypuz.puz ;
to save to "Other", navigate to a directory,
e.g., /tmp (but not /tmp/crozzword/ which gets cleaned out!),
then specify puzzles/mypuz.puz
- [Reg] Local Directory: Other allows selection of .zip archive
- [Reg] batch Save feature added to Open dialog. To use:
- select starting file/date for host
- Count field: enter number of puzzles to save, or leave blank for all remaining puzzles
- tap Save As
- select a destination directory
- enter a filename for .zip; no actual name needed for .puz (host names used);
create new directory by prefixing path to filename
1.2fR (13-Jul)
- fixes one refresh problem in 1.2: selecting words in same direction via drag -- previous words left highlighted
1.2 (10-Jul)
- (summary since 1.1)
- accessible in Zaurus' Games tab/folder rather than Jeode
- faster refresh when changing direction or selecting another word (if no scrolling),
and after closing menu/dialog
- puzzles re-organized into categories
- General font preference (was "Clue" menus only) used also for Prefs/Open dialogs, popups
- Sq. Size preference lists additional (small) sizes
- Prefs saved after Set (not upon exit)
- Enter: Skip Filled -- Enter key skips to next incomplete word; with Check: Input, Enter skips to next incorrect word
- current across/down clue menu & scrollbar uses current Word color
- across and/or down scrollbar hidden if entire puzzle fits, e.g., 15x15 puzzle fits for Sq. Size=14
- View: Clues appends cross-referenced clues, e.g., see 54-Across
- progress window with Cancel button to interrupt slow/unresponding server
- Save directory defaults to last local file, or Internal; local file list updated
- Register window provides button to open registration page in Opera, and to Set registration code
- [Reg] adds many more categories, sites and puzzles via live update
- [Reg] user page preference to add your own directories/sites/archives/puzzles
- [Reg] access puzzles directly from New York Times (with subscription)
- [Reg] access puzzles directly from .zip archives
- [non-Reg] displays Register page after "register-by" date (no actual expiration); registration page redirects
- released: 10-Jul-2002
- reg-date: 15-Sep-2002
1.2eR (7-Jul)
- Reset All now preserves reg code
- like clue menu, scrollbar for current direction uses Word color;
when scrollbar not shown, puzzle area should now always use extra row/col (and correctly fill rest with background color)
- puzzles loaded from .zip archive now treated as "new"; quit prompt now: "Puzzle not saved", rather than "Puzzle in progress"
- edits to help files and registration page
1.2dR (4-Jul)
- for public version: smaller set of sites than 1.0/1.1;
after "register-by" date, registration window always appears upon startup
- Register window provides "Pay" button to open registration page in Opera,
and to Set registration code
- File: Open new layout:
- Cat. button renamed to Update Categories
- added Prefs and Register buttons at bottom
- menus contain grayed "<labels>" to suggest what to select next and
to avoid problems with short labels/wide layouts;
- separate Login button removed; if NYT User and Password are specified in Prefs,
dialog pops up during Update to confirm Login+Update, or just Update (w/o Login).
note: I had thought it might be possible to save cookies and uninstall JSSE after first login,
but some of the cookies expire, so https: is still occasionally needed.
- Prefs layout improved: full height; labels fit better (though width
is still a problem if Gen. font increased in size)
- new command: Enter: Skip -- Enter key skips to next incomplete word;
if Check: Input is also on, Enter skips to next incorrect word
(earlier skipping worked only if Check: Input was on;
but that did not work with scrambled puzzles, and it's now possible to skip
to empty squares without accidentally checking a new guess; and also to have Enter
not skip words with Check: Input);
Check: Input is now turned off at beginning of each puzzle
- View: Clues adds any clues that are cross-referenced, e.g, "...18-Across..."
- File: Save As working again [broken in 1.2cR]
- Local Directory: Other...: Open in file dialog -- immediately opens puzzle
- General font no longer applied to main menu bar and menu items
(due to inconsistent/incorrect behavior)
- progress changed back to separate popup window with Cancel button to interrupt slow connection
- internal cleanup so that CrozzWord could be localized more easily for other countries
- better date handling of gaps and other frequencies (e.g., Mon-Sat) for Daily/Weekly
1.2cR (11 Jun)
- CrozzWord appears under Games folder/tab rather than Jeode
- [Reg] access New York Times puzzles directly!
- requires NYTimes "Premium" subscription
- requires installation of separate .ipk (425K) for "JSSE"
(Java Secure Socket Extensions libraries) to handle https: URLs
- JSSE must be installed in same memory (Internal/CF/SD) as CrozzWord app itself
- "JSSE Test" appears under Jeode; it's not necessary to run this --
check with me if you're having NYT connect problems
(don't bother NYT Support since they really won't know what you're talking about)
- initially it's probably best to run CrozzWord without other applications running
(I had run into one situation where it ran out of memory during https: authentication;
I need to find out how much to increase memory allocation at startup)
- with JSSE installed, NYT User and Password fields appear in Prefs*; Login button appears in Open dialog
- login itself may take many seconds (with several redirects)
- with successful login, New York Times sites are added during next update (Cat. button);
otherwise, they're skipped
- Daily/Weekly: New York Times (1996-); only latest puzzle is scrambled
- New York Times: Cru Cyptics and New York Daily archives;
NYT archive yearly pages also contain a few special/holiday puzzles
- [Reg] extract puzzles from .zip files on web sites;
you can also access a local .zip file if you include a path to it under Local Directory sites;
.zip files are copied locally to /tmp/crozzword/ and deleted when CrozzWord exits
- category/site lists reorganized: Litsoft, Jack's Puzzles (each .zip file a separate "host"), New York Times, ...;
I will update the sites list (here, below) later; note: long site or puzzle names can messup layout of Open dialog --
I need to try other ways of specifying layout constraints
- progress and error messages during Cat., Login and selecting a Host appear at bottom of Open dialog,
rather than in a separate popup; popup alert/progress/errors still appear for getting a puzzle and other
situations (maybe too wide now, but better than too narrow)
- *if Prefs view does not open to full height (with top & bottom fields clipped),
esp. with NYT fields added, you can stretch the bottom border down slightly
- File: Save As adds _save only once [Save does not work at all -- see 1.2dR]
- many misc. small fixes
1.2bR (5 Jun)
- [Reg] +Sites: user preference for URL to custom list of your own sites/puzzles
- these are added at beginning of Remote File Page menu
- use this to include sites in multiple categories, or add your pages
- faster refresh when changing direction or selecting another word (if no scrolling),
and after closing menu/dialog
- fixed problem with error window too small when remote site update fails
1.2aR (29 May)
- Prefs saved after Set (not at Quit)
- progress box for lengthy operations (e.g., slow server connect)
- Check: Input -- Enter skips to next incomplete/incorrect word
- General font preference (was "Clue" menus only) used also for
menubar, Prefs/Open dialogs, popups
- across/down clue menu uses current Word color
- Sq. Size preference lists additional (small) sizes
- across and/or down scrollbar hidden if entire puzzle fits,
e.g., 15x15 puzzle fits for Sq. Size=14
- [Reg] many more puzzles for registered users
- Save directory defaults to last local file, or Internal; local file list updated
1.1 (10 May)
- faster/more selective refresh (when only letter or word changes)
- scrolling more accurate (added Z Jeode workarounds)
- About uses helpbrowser; better size for popup dialogs (alert, confirm)
- confirmation for Quit (if puzzle not saved), for Prefs: Reset
- Edit: Pencil -- to use a different, e.g., lighter color, for less certain guesses
- various fixes: e.g., once a square has been Revealed, it becomes readonly
- added scrolling keys: Home, End, Page Up, Page Down
- Z-specific fonts added to Prefs
- executable after installation on other filesystems
- expires: 15-Aug-2002
1.0 (29 Apr)
- first release
- expires: 31-Jul-2002
